It also helps that Logstash comes with configurable in-memory or on-disk buffers:īecause of the flexibility and abundance of recipes, Logstash is a great tool for prototyping, especially for more complex parsing. That said, you can delegate the heavy processing to one or more central Logstash boxes, while keeping the logging servers with a simpler – and thus less resource-consuming – configuration. This can be a problem for high traffic deployments, when Logstash servers would need to be comparable with the Elasticsearch ones. ![]() We’ve done some benchmarks comparing Logstash to rsyslog and to filebeat and Elasticsearch’s Ingest node. Though performance improved a lot over the years, it’s still a lot slower than the alternatives. Logstash’s biggest con or “Achille’s heel” has always been performance and resource consumption (the default heap size is 1GB). Here are a few Logstash recipe examples from us: “ 5 minute tutorial intro ”, “ How to reindex data in Elasticsearch ”, “ How to parse Elasticsearch logs ”, “ How to rewrite Elasticsearch slowlogs so you can replay them with JMeter ”. This leads to a virtuous cycle: you can find online recipes for doing pretty much anything. Īlso, its clear documentation and straightforward configuration format means it’s used in a variety of use-cases. Logstash’s main strongpoint is flexibility, due to the number of plugins. Logstash is typically used for collecting, parsing, and storing logs for future use as part of a log management solution. Typical use cases: What is Logstash used for? Basically, you can take pretty much any kind of data, enrich it as you wish, then push it to lots of destinations. That’s because it has lots of plugins: inputs, codecs, filters and outputs. Logstash is not the oldest shipper of this list (that would be syslog-ng, ironically the only one with “new” in its name), but it’s certainly the best known. If you want to jump right to Sematext Logs and understand how to use them to centralize your logs, then check out this short video below. In this post, we’ll describe Logstash and 5 of the best “alternative” log shippers ( Logagent, Filebeat, Fluentd, rsyslog and syslog-ng ), so you know which fits which use-case depending on their advantages. Use Logstash or any Logstash alternative to send logs to Sematext Logs – Hosted ELK as a Service. Keep in mind, the shipper should ideally be able to buffer and retry log shipping because Elasticsearch can be down or struggling, or the network can be down. Sematext Logs has an Elasticsearch API so shipping logs there is just as simple as shipping to an Elasticsearch instance. In this case, either Sematext Logs or Elasticsearch.

The other two groups were much less likely to give blood. That came as a surprise but we believed a good explanation for this is that if people don’t think anyone will notice, they are more likely to give blood when they expect to get paid. However, we also found that nearly as large a share – 2.4% – of the people in the group that simply heard that they’d get a $10 gift card if they gave blood took part as well. ![]() We found that 2.51% of the people who knew they would leave the blood drive with blood-donor branding on their arms and were given the Heart Month rationale for the $10 gift card took part. We predicted that descriptions would work best when they emphasized that a donor’s generosity would be publicly observable and also let donors feel generous rather than in it for the money.Ĭhapman: We predicted that the most effective message would be the one that makes donors feel that others can see that they’ve done a good deed in combination with implying that the gift card is not payment for donation but rather a celebration of American Heart Month.Īnd it was. Instead, we tested how the description of that $10 affected everyone’s decision to donate or not, as well as the power of the expectation that others will know you’ve donated. In addition, only half of both groups were told they would wear conspicuous heart-themed bandages and arm wraps to spread awareness of the importance of giving blood.īecause everyone was offered the same sum, we didn’t compare groups that did versus didn’t get offered money. We expected the Heart Month rationale to make people feel that they were really donating their blood to help people and just happened to be getting a gift card incidentally because of the timing. The other half heard that the gift card was meant to promote American Heart Month, which occurs every February. Half the participants were told the gift cards were intended to thank them for donating blood. The email inviting them to give blood described the gift card in one of four ways. How did you test whether paying blood donors matters?Ĭhapman: In a study I conducted with social psychologist Jeffrey DeWitt, 4,528 members of Rutgers University’s faculty, staff and students were offered a US$10 gift card for taking part in a blood drive on campus. ![]() Just like you’d be happy to help your neighbor move a sofa into a truck as a favor, and might be put off if they offered a little cash, you would probably not agree to move the entire contents of the neighbor’s house without being paid for your labor. Not only is there no plasma shortage, the U.S. As a result, it’s common for Americans to get paid for donating plasma – especially low-income people. There’s a third motive: appearing generous to others.Ĭhapman: It takes more time to donate plasma, the pale yellowish liquid that makes up more than half of blood, which means plasma donation requires more effort. That’s because behavioral scientists find that many people do generous things, whether it’s volunteering at an animal shelter or giving hundreds of dollars to their alma mater, based both on a desire to help others and their hankering for whatever they think they might get in return. I believe that the current system makes sense. Blood donors are far more likely to get tote bags or bumper stickers as tokens of appreciation. However, it’s an unusual although technically legal practice in the United States. ![]() Paying blood donors might seem like a straightforward way to encourage people to do more of it. ![]() 8/11/2023 0 Comments Loverboy drink sales 2022![]() ![]() Considered one of the fastest-growing alcohol brands in the U.S., Loverboy was founded by Kyle Cooke, accredited by Bravo’s “Summer House” fame. On 12 December 1903 Orville Wright became the first human to fly on a motorized airplane. I wonder how George ever convinced the child’s mother that all would be fine! George is considered the first true scientific investigator of flight and the first person to understand the principals and forces behind it. In the early 1800’s George Cayley, and English Baron, experimented with wing design and developed the first glider that carried a human. ![]() He made drawings of flying machines that he thought could carry humans, but da Vinci lacked the technology to develop his machines. Those that have held the string that’s connected to a kite know the upward force the kite exerts.Īround 1485 Leonardo da Vinci studied and wrote about bird wings. Because a kite is fashioned like a bird’s wing, the kite continually lifts into the air, but needs force pulling it down to do so. If its wings weren’t fashioned like those of a bird, all the technology would be worth nothing.Īround 400 BC the Chinese developed kites. There’s so much technology that goes into, say, a passenger airliner its radar, communication and pressurization capabilities, and of course the huge engines that thrust its hundred or more tons into the air. I will always wonder if our world didn’t have birds in it, would we have ever developed the airplanes that take us around the world, and probably someday, to outer space. I, too, get a huge kick out of fighter jets passing by, and over those later years in NJ my cousin taught me how to identify the fighters, and I taught him how to ID birds. My cousin is a huge fan of human flying machines, and regularly watches fighter jet airshows or parks near a military airport close to his home, just to watch the jets come in and leave. He now lives in AZ, but we keep in regular touch with each other. I have a cousin I grew up with in NJ, and as we went through high school and then college, we became close friends. When one knows how fast a Peregrine can travel as it pursues its prey and how far one can travel during migration, seeing one sit in the same spot for such long stretches of time brings some irony to its otherwise rapid lifestyle. In the AM the sun sheds perfect light on our female, and I’d guess she enjoys the warmth on these recent, chilly mornings. This morning, Wednesday, 15 April, I did about 20 minutes of watching. Yes, not the most exciting of times, as evidenced by our female doing a lot of slumbering as she adheres to her very important job. Hello all! Here we are, just 5 or so days from our chicks hopefully emerging from their eggs. Hopefully when I’m writing ASK JEFF #7 I’ll be talking about the new chicks and answering all your questions. Even if eggs are quickly collected and analyzed, it still may not be determined how the egg died. Sometimes an egg gets a minute crack that allows bacteria to enter the egg. Maybe the eggs got chilled for too long and died. Peregrines, as well as all wild animals, lead a hard life. One example is one or both parents were somehow killed. Just like the actual number of days it takes a wild egg to hatch, there are many variables that could explain why eggs would be abandoned. Those eggs eventually break and the shell pieces become part of the nest substrate.Īnother question was asked about a clutch of Peregrine eggs in a nest near San Francisco. Especially once the chicks become more mobile, the unhatched eggs naturally get pushed aside. Yet both parents seemingly continue to incubate the unhatched eggs. Peregrine Falcon eggs in a nest usually hatch within a 24-hour time period, so it becomes evident fairly quickly what eggs won’t hatch. When the chicks first hatch, they must be kept just as warm as the eggs, since birds can’t regulate their own body heat until they reach a certain size and grow the downy feathers needed for insulation. One of the questions over the week asked what happens to the unhatched eggs after the fertile eggs hatch. These quick incubator changes help us understand how important consistent temperature and humidity are. From the time she hopped off the eggs to the time the male was settled on them took about 15 seconds. This morning at about 11:40 the male flew into the box to give mom a break. The humidity of the environment under the mother as she incubates can also affect egg development. ![]() For example, if the mother has to leave the nest to help the male defend their territory, the eggs could become chilled enough to lengthen development time. There are many variables that affect egg development, with temperature consistency being a big one. I’ll throw out the reminder that predicting when a wild egg will hatch is like predicting the weather it’s not an exact science. Greetings everyone! As I write this on Thursday, 23 April, we are into the third day since the eggs were due to hatch. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Companies with applications seeking to participate are generally expected to meet the criteria for FDA’s priority review, which include a medical product that is intended to treat a serious condition and that, if approved, would provide a significant improvement in safety or effectiveness. Project Orbis is intended for high-impact oncology products – those products that have the potential to benefit patients the most. Such regular communications on the criteria for approvals in different countries benefits oncology product development by helping to improve and standardize the design of clinical trials worldwide. This does make for an interesting change, as players working to beat a friend’s record can no longer get by leading the enemies around in a train, only snagging the gems when convenient. Here, the score multiplier increases by gunning down the enemies, and the actual points are racked up by picking up the gems. In an act of desperation, her creators set her free in the network. Unfortunately, this seems to lead the fuzz right to them. After a successful test run, the Ada program was making her way back to her coder parents. The hacking that occurs is done via shooting the malevolent protector programs in the target area. Players take control of Ada, a sentient computer program designed to “hack” computer networks. That is not to say that this is a bad title. Even the music makes use of the same note progressions found in the obvious inspiration. The look is similar, the sound is similar, and the vast majority of enemies behave the same exact way. While there are a few differences, which will be covered later, this title would not exist without the former. It is not overly reductive to state that Tachyon Project is Geometry Wars with a story. It’s pure arcade bliss and any version is highly recommended. Later iterations added more modes that extrapolated from this basic formula. Topping the leaderboards becomes the primary thrust of the game and a damn addictive one at that. Each enemy leaves behind various amounts of gems that can be picked up to increase the score multiplier. Score is, of course, earned through shooting down the enemies. ![]() As it ramped up, more and more enemies would fill the screen, requiring the player to act fast and remove all thought.
