![]() “Time of the Season” by classic rock band The Zombies is reimagined into an English and Chinese original to celebrate a limited-time offering of a plant-based take on the brand’s iconic The Original Orange Chicken®, Beyond™ The Original Orange Chicken™. But I’m kinda relieved to not want it again, who needs it.In a new campaign created by the world’s largest American Chinese dining concept Panda Express and independent creative and strategic advertising agency The Many, music is once again used to tell a one-of-a-kind product story, while also promoting the company’s larger goal of being a cultural bridge. I did try the beyond orange chicken a few days ago and was pretty disappointed with the portion size and that there was very little sauce on it. So basically, I just find that vegan food is better when it’s made by a vegan. ![]() I think that’s understandable, though, it was kind of a hassle. Every once in a while a customer would request one of the dishes be specially prepared for them without the meat (like making the kung pao, but just with the zucchini and whatever other veggies were in that) and the cooks were always accommodating, but they definitely didn’t like doing it. Nobody was fully disrespectful about it, but I definitely never felt compassion from the rest of the staff. I worked at Panda like 10 years ago, and I went vegetarian then vegan while working there. So the beyond chicken is probably being cooked the same way, at the same temp, for the same amount of time as the real chicken and that might result in a less than desirable product in the end. If the vegan option needs to be prepared a slightly different way to taste right, they don’t have the knowledge or time to do that and they probably wouldn’t be allowed to deviate from cooking procedures anyway. What I’ve found is that at fast food places, the people in the kitchen are less experienced with vegan food than nonvegan food. ![]() Instead of asking if their food is vegan, I’ll ask if it has any animal products in the ingredients (although I almost always check online first). ![]() This is likely why the worker said there was nothing vegan there. Some think cross contamination makes it not vegan, so Panda Express does not have any of its items certified vegan. People are so often confused about what is and isn’t vegan, and it’s not surprising as even vegans can’t all agree. Be aware of this due to cross-contamination. Panda Express will not call any of their items vegetarian or vegan friendly. We have also been told that some locations are frying it in the same fryer as animal products. Please verify this with your location (if it is a concern for you)… We were told the Beyond Orange Chicken is fried in a separate fryer with its own oil but when the sauce is added, it is added in a shared wok. ![]() The woks are shared but are wiped out after each item. Panda Express does share surfaces with animal products therefore, cross-contamination can/will occur. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals." - The Vegan Society Interested in going vegan?īecome Vegan Activist Activism Community Reddit Activism Guide Vegan Cheat Sheet Recommended documentary!Ĭlick here for a full list of communities! Veganism: "A philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude-as far as is possible and practicable-all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. ![]()
